Mixed Number & Algebra drill (TSA style)

A timed-style mixed set: primes, percentage change, expansion, factorisation and a linear equation.

How to use this lesson
Treat each practice item like a short assessment question. Aim for accuracy first, then speed. The multiple-choice block mirrors Section A style; the written list mirrors Sections B/C.
Topic switching
Real papers jump topics. After a percentage item you may meet indices — reset your method; do not force the previous technique.
Presentation
Even when working “need not be shown”, jotting one line reduces careless errors. For long questions, write expressions, then the answer sentence.
Exam habit
Skip and return: mark hard items, bank easy marks first.
Worked example
Linear equation check
Problem. Solve 3(x − 2) − 4 = 2 − 5x.
Solution. 3x − 6 − 4 = 2 − 5x ⇒ 3x − 10 = 2 − 5x ⇒ 8x = 12 ⇒ x = 1.5.
Review quiz
1 / 4HCF of 2²×3×5 and 2×3²×7 is
Practice questions
- Find the HCF of 2²×3×5 and 2×3²×7.
- A mass rises from 50 kg to 56 kg. Find the percentage increase.
- Expand (x − 4)(x + 2).
- Factorise x² − 9x + 20.
- Solve 3(x − 2) − 4 = 2 − 5x.
Study notes
Should I use a calculator?
Follow your paper rules. Many junior items are designed for clean integer arithmetic.
